Clairvoyance is probably the psychic ability you have heard the most about. Often, it is used as a blanket term for any sort of psychic ability.
Clairvoyance means “clear sight”, and refers to the ability to see visions or impressions of a situation that is outside of their own experience. They can be past, present, or future events.
These visions are usually seen in the mind’s eye, or third eye, rather than normal vision. Some psychics, especially psychic mediums, are able to see visions in the physical world, but this is rare.
Sometimes, rather than a literal vision of an event, a clairvoyant psychic will see metaphorical visions. For instance, somebody asks them a question about any life changes they might be experiencing. The clairvoyant psychic might see a vision of the querent sinking into quicksand, or falling through an ice-covered lake. This signifies that the person could be in an unstable situation, with the rug about to be pulled out from under them at any moment.
From here, the psychic is able to give advice on how to proceed or shown visions of how to bring about stability in the querent’s life. It’s all up to the psychic and how they prefer to work.
Like any of these senses, clairvoyance can be developed with practice; for many psychics, it is a natural gift that they have been experiencing since childhood, and hence why they have been drawn into psychic reading as a career. Clairaudience is another mode of clairvoyance, for those with minds who process information in words, rather than images. The same information can be found through clairaudience, but instead of presenting itself as images or visions that appear in the mind’s eye, clairaudience comes through as fragments of words, or even whole sentences, that pop into the psychic’s head without any external source.
This can be hard for some to differentiate, especially if they are of a logical bent and “hear” their thoughts as sentences in their head. What is the difference between a thought and a clairaudient message?
This is something that those with this ability spend their whole life trying to discern. It can take many, many years to learn how to recognize a clairaudient message as distinct from random thoughts popping into their head.
For some with this ability, the noises they hear seem to be coming externally, as if someone were whispering in their ear. This can be alarming, but differs from audio hallucinations in that the messages serve a purpose and offer guidance to a situation.
Claircognizance, or clear knowing, is an ability where somebody simply knows what is going to happen before it happens, without any external source providing such information. This differs from intuition in that intuition is the ability to deduce things without logical reasoning from the clues surrounding a person or situation.
With claircognizance, not only is there no logical reasoning, but there are also no clues. Something will happen and a claircognizant person will simply know about it beforehand.
Oftentimes, claircognizance isn’t recognizable until after the fact because there’s no way to know that you knew something was going to happen until it happens. This ability can be developed alongside intuition, by paying attention to the thoughts and innate knowledge you feel you have, and noticing the world around you.
Like all of the psychic senses, claircognizance relies on awareness of what is going on around you. It may seem counterintuitive, but only an individual who is grounded, and not living inside their head at all times, can effectively develop any of these skills. A balance between the ephemeral goings-on inside the head and things that are truly manifesting physically on earth must be achieved.
All of the psychic senses included in extrasensory perception can be found within most human psyches. For some, finding and developing these abilities is easier than others, and they have been present with them their whole lives.
