Palmistry is a technique of fortune telling which developed in ancient India, but is now used worldwide to make predictions about a person’s personality and the general structure of their lives.

If you’ve always wanted to learn more about palm reading, now’s your chance. At Psychics-Reading.com we believe in putting the power of readings into your hands (pun intended), so you can receive the best readings possible while being informed of what goes into them.

These basics of palm reading will help you follow along in a professional palm reading without being lost in confusion along the way.

The Palm Lines

There are five main lines on the palm that a palm reader will look at during a reading. Their quality will tell the palm reader what there is to know about you.

  • The Life Line: The line that extends in an arc around the thumb. The length of the life line doesn’t have anything to do with how long a person lives, but rather their health and vitality. A long, prominent life line usually describes a person who is healthy and energetic, while a short, shallow life line could indicate somebody who is easily tired or chronically ill.
  • The Head Line: The line that starts between the middle finger and the palm, stretching to the other side of the palm. This line reflects intelligence and mentality. A long, deep head line usually represents somebody who is creative and intellectual, while a shorter, shallower head line could mean that physical achievements are more likely than mental ones.
  • The Heart Line: The line that stretches across the hand, directly underneath the fingers. This line is also sometimes called the Love Line. It represents matters of the heart, like love and romance, but also emotions in general. Generally, it is thought that the longer and straighter the heart line, the better. A disconnected or short heart line could point to little interest in emotional matters, while a deep, long line could indicate someone who is a romantic at heart.
  • The Money Line: The line that stretches from the middle finger to the list. It is also called the Fate Line. As should be obvious from the name, it reflects a person’s finances and career. A long, clear line can be an indicator of a stable work life, while a choppy or hard to make out line could reflect someone who changes jobs or life paths frequently.
  • The Marriage Line: The short line above the heart line, directly under the pinkie. This line is an indicator of marriage and relationships. There are sometimes a number of lines here – this is not an indicator of how many marriages or relationships a person will have. The clearest line is the one to be read. A short, shallow, or barely visible marriage line could indicate that the person will not marry, or will find a long-term partnership late in life.

The Hand Shapes

The lines on the palm aren’t the only thing that a palm reader takes into account during a reading. The shape of the hand also has a meaning and can be an indicator of the person’s general fortune in life. The hand shapes relate to the four elements. Generally, the traits of the elements follow the traits as they are laid out in tarot and astrology.

  • Air Hand: A square or rectangular, dry palm, with long fingers showing prominent knuckle bones. Air hand traits include: being intelligent, good at analyzing, imaginative, curious, and sociable.
  • Earth Hand: The palm is square, thick, and tough to the touch, with short fingers. The earth hand indicates a person who is practical, responsible, and down to earth. They are content with the basics of life and don’t over romanticize things.
  • Water Hand: Soft, clammy, long and oval-shaped palm, with long, sensitive, narrow fingers. This person is intuitive, empathetic, sensitive, introverted, and creative. They are adaptable but easy to hurt. They are often artists.
  • Fire Hand: A rectangular or square palm with short fingers. The fire hand loves adventure and travel; they can be somewhat self-centered. They are energetic, extroverted, smart, and optimistic.

Which Hand Should Be Read?

While both hands should be fairly symmetrical, there are subtle differences to each. It is thought that the right hand represents the present moment and the future, while the left hand represents past lives or innate traits.

Generally, though, it is thought best to read the dominant hand in a palm reading.

Are My Palms Fixed?

Over time, the lines in your palms change, just as possible fates and futures can change. The art of palm reading is part of a pseudoscience called physiognomy which associates traits with a person’s appearance.

These readings can often be eerily accurate, but palm reading, like any form of fortune telling, should be used for entertainment purposes, or as a general guideline, but not as a hard and fast indicator of what your life is going to be like.
